MTU Generators for Assisted Living Facility in FL
New Surplus MTU diesel generators help meet emergency power requirements for a Florida assisted living healthcare provider.
Florida Assisted Living Facility Generator Regulations
In September of 2017, Governor Rick Scott gave assisted living communities 60 days to acquire generators to supply power during utility outages. Now all hospitals, nursing homes, and ambulatory surgery centers in the state of Florida are required to have a Level 1 Emergency Power Supply System (EPSS). A Level 1 System shall be installed when failure of the equipment could result in the loss of human life.
On-site acceptance tests must be conducted as a final approval for all EPSS installations. The Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) must be given advanced notice of the test in order to witness the test. The generator control panel must contain the following:
- Automatic remote start capability
- Run-off-automatic switch
- Shutdown capability
- Alarms
- System controls
The list above is a sample of the requirements for Level 1 systems. Level 1 EPSS systems are closely monitored for maintenance and performance. If a generator fails a test it must be repaired or replaced in a timely manner. Hefty fines, facility shutdown, and civil actions can result in the event of non-compliance.
New Surplus MTU Generators Meet Emergency Power Requirements
Facilities that do not have emergency power or have aged generators that do not pass testing are faced with purchasing new costly power generation systems.
Generator Source recently provided an MTU 500 kW and an MTU 200 kW diesel generator set to multiple asslisted livng facilities in Florida. These generators were designated as NEW SURPLUS industrial generators and were very new (from 2017). New surplus generators are those that have not been placed in service, but are ready to get out and produce standby power in case of an in-service failure or loss of mains power.
These generators were from MTU Onsite Energy, a well-respected name in industrial power with dealers and service providers throughout the world. MTU generators can be powered by Rolls-Royce or Detroit Diesel engines. These generator sets feature low fuel consumption, long service intervals, and low emissions. All are backed with 60 years of generator design experience.
The generator sets were in pristine shape and had zero operational hours on them. Some of the new technology required by Level 1 that are contained in this generation set are:
- System housed in a sound attenuated enclosure
- Auto Start and Auto Stop function
- Safety shutdown
- Engine Mount Radiator
- 1000-gallon fuel tank
We were happy to supply this client with new surplus generators. In the event we cannot supply a zero-hour generator, a low-hour high quality generator purchased by our Asset Recovery team can typically be a great option to consider. The hours on the standby generators we purchase are usually accumulated through routine maintenance runs and short-term power outages.
All the low-hour gensets we sell are completely inspected, serviced and load bank tested prior to sale and delivery. We can proivde videos as needed, and on-site customer visits to view tests are always welcome. If your company is interested in a backup power solution please call us at 800-853-2073 and we will help you select some options for your application.
