Hurricane Season Started June 1st

All coastal communities and US territories should prepare for short to long term power outages because of hurricanes and tropical storms.

Hurricane Season Begins

Storm Surge
Hurricane season for the Atlantic region officially begins on June 1st and ends on November 30th. The Western Pacific Region is July 1st to November 30th. Hurricanes can strike any coastal state on the continent and the following United States territories:

  • American Samoa
  • Guam
  • Northern Mariana Islands
  • Puerto Rick
  • US Virgin Islands.
Last year, Duke Energy estimated 15 to 25 million people were without power when Hurricane Irma hit Florida, see more detials here.

Hurricanes are rated in categories with a Category 1 producing winds and from 74 to 95 mph causing some damage and the Category 5 storm producing winds up to 157+ mph, causing catastrophic damage.

Storm surge is the abnormal rise of water caused by the winds of the hurricane. This hazard contributes to the most loss of life and property damage. During this season, tropical storms have the same depressions as hurricanes and can cause the same style of damage, but to a lesser extent.

The National Weather Service states that over a two year period of time, the United States coast line is struck by an average of three hurricanes per year with one classified as a major hurricane with winds of 111+ mph. US Territories are the first to be hit with these hurricanes. Hurricane safety is a primary concern. Always evacuate when an order is issued.

The Best Offense is an Emergency Power Generator

Enclosed Generator
After the winds die and the storm surge water recedes, the true storm damage can be calculated. Often electrical infrastructure is damaged. Sometimes all services are completely destroyed.

Large areas can be out of power for short to extended times, depending on storm size and infrastructure damage. Coastal industries, hospitals, local services and residences all depend on power to operate safely and efficiently.

It is often said the best offense is a good defense. This holds true with emergency power systems. Make sure your company or house is prepared for the next time an outage hits by having a backup generator in place.

Generator Source offers new, surplus and low hour used emergency generators. All generators are inspected and load tested prior to delivery. If a facility has temporary needs, we also supply the needed generator on a rental basis. Since our generators are in-stock and ready for load, we boast a short delivery time and can arrange shipping/crane services. Contact us and we can help with all your generation needs.
